North Luzon Christmas and New Year Road Trip

Spending Christmas at Home, Planning a Trip North

We just spent Christmas at home, but for New Year’s Eve I planned something different—heading north where my Ilocano roots are from. Excited to visit tourist spots and taste local dishes.

Travel Considerations and Preparations

Key factors included gas money, lodging, food, and travel time. Bringing our cat Dovi was out of the question, but luckily a colleague agreed to care for him. As for our baby, of course she’s coming! With toys packed, we’re ready for the road trip.

Original Road Trip Plan

The plan was to leave on December 28 and return January 1. Stops included La Union, Pagudpud, Laoag, and ending at Vigan to welcome 2018 at Calle Crisologo.

Change of Plans – Baguio First!

On December 27, plans shifted. My kids wanted to visit Baguio City first, so we adjusted. I scheduled a one-day tour of Baguio before continuing north.

1-Day Baguio City Tour Itinerary

We’ll leave Manila at 2:00 AM to reach Lion’s Head by sunrise. Based on Google, travel time is about 4 hours.

  • Lion’s Head – 15 minutes

  • Kennon Road Viewpoint – 5 minutes

  • PMA, Fort del Pilar – 1 to 1.5 hours

  • Bell House, Camp John Hay – 1 hour

  • Burnham Park (optional)

  • Valley of Colors – 5 minutes

  • Stobosa Artwork – 5 minutes

  • Strawberry Farm – 2 hours

After Baguio, we’ll drive straight to San Fernando, La Union for a night’s rest before continuing.

Continuing the Northern Adventure

From La Union, the plan is to drive to Pagudpud and stay two days, then head to Vigan for New Year’s Eve celebrations. Laoag may also be part of the trip depending on time.

Final Thoughts

This road trip combines family bonding, culture, food, and exploration—welcoming the New Year with adventure and memories that last.
